Skiing in Gulmarg – Peak Experience AY 2024-25
The Basic Elementary Skiing Peak Experience was conducted from 21st to 27th February 2026 in Gulmarg, Kashmir with Indus Eagles from Indus International School Bangalore, Indus International School Pune and Indus International School Hyderabad participating in the program. Organized by the Indus School of Leadership, the experience brought together students from Grades 7, 8, 9 and 11 for a week of outdoor learning, adventure and leadership development in the Himalayas.
The program began with the group arriving in Gulmarg and settling into the mountain environment. After equipment distribution and orientation, students were introduced to the fundamentals of skiing and the safety protocols required while training on the slopes. For many students, this was their first time experiencing snow, which made the learning both exciting and challenging.
Over the next few days, students trained on the slopes under the guidance of professional instructors. The training started with the basics — understanding ski equipment, wearing ski boots, learning balance and moving on beginner slopes. Gradually, students progressed to controlled sliding, turning techniques and using drag lifts to access slightly higher slopes. With practice and determination, students grew more confident each day, learning to manage the terrain and their movements on the snow.
The process of learning to ski required patience and resilience. Falling down and getting back up became part of the learning journey and students supported each other throughout the experience. By the end of the course, all participants successfully completed the Basic Elementary Skiing Course and received their certificates. One student also progressed further and successfully attempted an intermediate-level skiing course.
Apart from the technical skills, the experience provided valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork and perseverance. Evening reflection sessions were conducted where students discussed their experiences on the slopes, the challenges they faced and what they learned from the day. These discussions encouraged students to think about their personal growth and how they supported one another as a team.
After completing the skiing course, the group travelled to Srinagar for a short cultural experience. Students visited the beautiful Dal Lake, explored the historic Mughal Gardens and spent time in the local markets experiencing the culture and atmosphere of Kashmir. A memorable highlight for the students was staying overnight in a traditional Kashmiri houseboat on Dal Lake.
The Gulmarg Peak Experience provided students with an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and learn in a completely different environment. The combination of adventure, physical challenge, teamwork and cultural exploration made the program a meaningful and memorable learning experience for all the participants.
